A balanced education with equal importance in academic as well as co curricular activities has been followed at Bustee Welfare Centre and has all along been laying greater emphasis on education through its diversified activities for betterment of the lives of the poor slum dwellers. With this purpose in view, the Centre admits children in Nursery class. Our schools are non-residential and co-educational institution with English as medium of instruction, laying equal emphasis on other languages like Bengali and Hindi. The school follows the syllabus recognized by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. After passing Class VII, the students take admission to other schools of their choice, competing through admission test. Read More Apart from maintaining a consistently high academic standard in our school, we have a well developed programme for basic health, recreation, co curricular activities like drawing classes, karate, dancing under expert guidance. The school gives free education to the students and provides them uniforms, shoes, text books, exercise books, karate dress and nutritious mid-day meal.
Every care is taken to ensure the betterment of academic performance of the children as most of our students are the first generation learners and their parents are unable to guide their children with their studies, which results in poor academic performance. With this problem in view, Bustee Welfare Centre conducts special classes to provide guidance to the weak students.
During the school days cooked meal is served to the children. Time to time the menu of the food is changed to give variety in the serving as well as to keep the nutritious value of the food intake. This wholesome meal boosts their physical and mental energy. Many children come to school in empty stomach. On identification of such children some snacks are immediately given to them.
Regular Art & Craft Classes are held for our children. The children have a great aptitude for drawing, painting and craft work. The children are encouraged to develop their latent talents and also participate in competitions, bringing laurels to the school. Karate and Dance Classes are also held by the expert teachers.
The school has a well stocked Library of books of children’s interest. The school library has been enriched through kind help and initiative taken by many of our members/donors.
Both the units have one experienced Head Master and 20 well qualified and trained teachers. The teachers motivate the students to achieve high academic standards. The confidence and self esteem that our students display, is in itself an indication of the strong values ingrained in them by the school.
Computer studies are an integral part of our school curriculum which is introduced from Class III. The Lovelock Street unit has a well equipped computer lab and a trained computer teacher. A well designed practical oriented syllabus, aimed at imparting both theoretical and practical classes are followed. The students show keen interest in the classes and it is encouraging to note that, the students are able to handle the computers under the guidance of the computer teacher. Periodic assessment of the students is done throughout the year.
On invitation by various agencies, children get opportunity to go out on a day trip to many places and participate in competitions, dance performance and games. These type of exposures to the diverse platforms enable them to become more confident to deal with various situations.
Children and teachers wholeheartedly participate in the in-house events such as observation of Independence Day, Republic Day, Founder’s Day, birthdays of the eminent personalities of our country, Year End Party etc.
Awareness Sessions on various pertinent issues such as: ‘Good touch- Bad touch’, ‘Seasonal Health Issues’ etc. are discussed with the children by the teachers or external experts on a regular basis.
